Galloway Republicans Endorse Jeff Van Drew, Praise Trump

'Congressman Van Drew is fighting to defend President Trump at every turn,' the Galloway Republicans said.

GALLOWAY, NJ — Republican leaders from Galloway endorsed Congressman Jeff Van Drew. The group of current and former officials said, "Congressman Van Drew is fighting to defend President Trump at every turn."

The officials endorsed Van Drew and praised President Donald Trump in a Monday news release from Van Drew's campaign. The listed officials are Municipal Chairwoman Terry Lucarelli; Freeholder Rich Dase; Councilmen Tony Coppola, Rich Clute and Tony DiPietro; former mayor Don Purdy; and Galloway Township Republican League President Chris Coleman.

Coppola and Clute also served as mayor and deputy mayor of Galloway, respectively.

“Congressman Van Drew is a proven conservative who has a long and distinguished record of fighting for South Jersey families. We are grateful that Congressman Van Drew is fighting to defend President Trump at every turn and we are honored to endorse him for re-election to the US House of representatives. With President Trump and Congressman Van Drew leading our Republican ticket we are poised for victory in 2020.”

President Trump will hold a rally at 7 p.m. Jan. 28 at the Wildwoods Convention Center. Van Drew told reporters he will accompany President Trump on Air Force One.

President Trump and Van Drew will both be up for reelection Nov. 3. Van Drew was first elected to Congress as a Democrat in 2018. The congressman only voted against the majority of House Democrats 12.1 percent of the time, according to ProPublica's measurement.

But he strayed from Democrats on key issues, such as impeachment. The House of Representatives voted to impeach President Trump for abuse of power and obstruction of justice.
