From βheβs not readyβ to βI like him, but Iβm glad heβs not running,β and βI donβt like him and Iβm glad he isnβt running,β opinions were varied throughout Galloway Township as to Gov. Chris Christieβs announcement on Tuesday, Oct. 4 that he next year.

βHe took his time, and he came back to his original decision,β Douglas said. βHe came back to where he started.β
Christie had been saying for weeks he wouldn't run for president next year, but speculation continued to mount that he would change his mind and throw his hat in the ring. Tuesday, he unequivocally said no. Again.
βIt didnβt shock me because he has been saying heβs not ready to run for president,β Stockton sophomore Brad Korch said, adding that he would like to see Christie run for president at some point.
Dan Pestalozzi, the Treasurer for Stocktonβs Republican Club, believes Christie will run for president some day, but was happy that day isnβt coming any time soon.
βIβm stoked heβs not running because I want him to stay in New Jersey for as long as possible,β Pestalozzi said. βI love his education reforms, and just because he isnβt running this time, I donβt think that means heβs never going to run. I think itβs definitely in the cards.β
βThe Republicans donβt really have anybody right now,β graduate student Darice Prico said. βI think of the candidates the Republicans have right now, he would be the best, but he needs to do something about his
Earlier this year, when the school announced it was pursuing a bid to host a debate, Douglas spoke about the possibility of the stateβs governor participating in a presidential debate at the growing state college.
"It would've been fun to have the Governor of New Jersey debate the President of the United States at Stockton College,β Douglas said. βWe're still expecting to have fun with the president debating the Republican candidate, whoever it is."
Galloway resident Dan Burke hopes that candidate will be Ron Paul, who has gained notoriety in the past few years for his stance on auditing the Federal Reserve and ending Americaβs military involvement in foreign affairs, and has been labeled βthe Original Tea Partyβ representative.
βIβm glad (Christieβs) not running for president because he just became governor,β Burke said while at on Tuesday. βI donβt think heβs ready. I just think the Republican Party is desperate to beat Ron Paul because heβs the only one telling the truth about the issues. He canβt be bought.β
βI like him and Iβm happy with what heβs doing,β Galloway resident Virginia DeNegri said while out for a stroll around Tuesday afternoon. βIβm glad heβs not running in this one, but I hope he will in the future.β
Four Seasons residents Sylvia Micklin and Gerry Stone agreed with DeNegri.
βHeβs smart, and if he thinks heβs not ready, heβs not ready,β Micklin said. βIf he wanted to, thatβs different. He knows what heβs doing, and he should just continue.β
βWhy push it?β Stone asked. βThe Republicans are pushing it because they know they need somebody.Β β¦ Heβs an honest man who believes in his convictions. Heβs a great governor.β
Galloway residents Lillian Curatolo, Patsy Pink and Denise Firestine watched the announcement at , and all three were happy Christie wonβt be running for president for another reason.
βI donβt think he has enough experience, but I also donβt think heβs fit to be president,β Firestine said. βHe only cares about the upper class.β
βI donβt think heβs fit to be president,β Pink said. βYou need someone to be well-qualified, and I donβt think he is.β
Curatolo doesnβt approve of the job Christie is doing in the state, but also doesnβt believe President Barack Obama will see another term in the White House.
β(Christieβs) not qualified, but none of them really are,β Curatolo said. βObamaβs not making things any better. Look at the mess heβs in. I voted for him, but I donβt think there will be a next time.β
