The additional funding comes from a new federal allocation as well as state-run efficiencies in administering the Ed Jobs funding announced in 2010, according to a release from the Christie Administration.
"In these economic times, we are doing everything we can to make sure schools have the resources they need to be successful," Acting Education Commissioner Chris Cerf said. "Through smart planning and efficient administration, we are excited to be able to free up additional funds to send directly to districts to pay for human capital costs."

The federal government made available $262 million to the state in Ed Jobs funding in 2010, and school districts have until September of 2012 to use these funds for compensation, benefits and other expenses, according to the release.
The "other expenses" include support services, necessary to retain existing employees, to recall or rehire former employees and to hire new employees, in order to provide early childhood, elementary or secondary education and related services, the administration said.
The Department of Education held back roughly $5.2 million, or 2 percent, to administer the program, the administration said. This provided for staff resources and the development of a software system to track data.
In October, the federal government made nearly $4 million in additional funds to the state. The department was also able to make nearly $4.3 million in additional funds available directly to school districts, including Galloway and Greater Egg Harbor, through what the administration called βefficient planning and prudent management,β out of the $5.2 million in federal funds that had been provided for administration expenses.
