GEHR Super Says Different Ballots is Galloway's Prerogative

Both school districts have a referendum on Dec. 13. Voters can vote for both at the same location, but in different booths and on different ballots.

Galloway Township residents will be in a unique situation Dec. 13, as they will be asked to vote in two separate special elections, addressing a variety of construction projects on their local and regional school districts.

Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District, which includes , Cedar Creek and Oakcrest high schools, had asked that both special elections be held on the same day when district officials learned that Galloway was looking to go to a referendum ballot on

Greater Egg Harbor had been toying with going out to for the past couple of years and had hoped that, with the Dec. 13 election, both referendum questions would be on the same ballot for this one town only.

During Monday night, Nov. 21's Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District meeting,  District Business Administrator Charles Muller explained that residents in Galloway would be sent two separate ballots for the two elections, and they will be told to enter two separate polling booths to vote. 

"There's nothing we can do to prevent them from doing it that way," Superintendent of Schools for the Greater Egg Harbor Regional School District Dr Steve Ciccariello said. "It's their prerogative."

Board member Vicki Hood subsequently asked whether the poll workers would be prepared to direct voters to the other booth once they vote for one or the other referendum. Board Member Margaret Guenther indicated that they would. They had when there were similar situations held previously.
