Mosquito Spray Planned for Port Republic on Wednesday

Spraying takes place from 5-7 a.m.

The Atlantic County Office of Mosquito Control will be treating parts of Port Republic to control the population of adult mosquitoes Wednesday morning, June 27, weather permitting, the county announced Monday afternoon.

Truck spraying will be done using Scourge, the trade name for resmethrin, applied as an ultra low volume aerosol, the county said. Affected areas will include the Chestnut Lake Monument area, Chestnut Neck Road to Mill Road, St. John’s Lane, and Main Street between Old New York Road and Mill Road, and spraying will take place Wednesday morning, 5-7 a.m., according to the county.

No special precautions are necessary, and the EPA doesn't require relocating during mosquito spray control. Residents can choose to avoid or minimize exposure in the following ways:

* Remain indoors during application to immediate area;

* Keep windows closed, window fans and air conditioners off, or set to circulate indoor air, during spraying;

* Keep children’s toys inside; and


* Keep pets, as well a their food, water dishes and toys, inside.

Mosquito Control officials remind residents of the importance of removing standing water from their properties and cleaning their gutters to eliminate potential mosquito breeding grounds.
