Renault Winery Wins Gold at Finger Lakes Wine Competition

Renault also won three silvers and two bronzes.

Renault Winery's 2009 Norton Cynthiana can be considered among the elite wines, after capturing a gold medal at the Finger Lakes Wine Competition last month in Rochester, New York, according to the Garden State Wine Growers Association (GSWGA).

Renault competed as a GSWGA member and was one of four member wineries to win gold. The others were Auburn Road Vineyard and Winery of Pilesgrove for their 2011 Dry Rose Roxanne and non-vintage Vidal Blanc Sole; the Cape May Winery in Cape May for their 2010 Merlot; and the Hopewell Valley Vineyards in Mercer County for their Pinot Gris/Pinot Grigio, non-vintage.

Renault also won three silver and two bronze medals.

In all, GSWGA members won 76 medals.

“Once again, New Jersey wines, when matched against wines from across the country and internationally in blind taste tests, proved their excellence and great quality,” Ollie Tomasello, Chairman of the GSWGA and owner of Plagido’s Winery in Hammonton, said in a release. “This remarkable accomplishment of winning 76 medals in such a prestigious competition as the Finger Lakes event, including two double gold medals, showcases how good our state’s product is and what the country can experience first-hand when direct shipping begins on May 1.”

The prestigious competition is held to benefit Camp Good Days and Special Times, a non-profit organization that provides camping opportunities for those with Cancer and HIV/AIDS, among other challenges, according to GSWGA. All 50 states and 22 countries were represented.

A panel of 64 judges from 15 countries judged from over 3,200 wines.
