School District's Reorganization Process Begins Tonight

With the switch to November elections, the district's official reorganization meeting will now take place in January.

While not officially labele a reorganization meeting, the Galloway Township begins the transition year reorganization process tonight when it convenes at the cafeteria, 7 p.m.

According to Galloway Township School District Communications Officer Joanna Westcott, many of the appointments scheduled for tonight must be done before the end of the school district’s fiscal year so that the district can move ahead into its next fiscal year. This fiscal year ends June 30.

She added that the reorganization meeting after November’s elections will focus on board committee appointments. That meeting takes place the first week of January. The fiscal year will remain July 1-June 30 despite the change in elections date.

According to Business Administrator Tim Kelley, the state hasn't issued any guidelines on how reorganization meetings should be handled, but he wouldn't be surprised to see the process conducted this way on an annual basis.

The school board in January to move this year’s elections to November, to coincide with national and state political elections. The action also allows the district to pass its proposed budget without voter approval, as long as it remains below the 2 percent cap. The vote came four days after a was passed allowing school districts to make the change.

There are no municipal elections in Galloway. Election day is Nov. 6.
