South Jersey Dads Who Fought Outside Softball Game Sentenced

Michael Barbella and Michael John Duffy got into a fist fight following an argument outside the game in July.

Michael Barbella, 48, of Ventnor, and Michael John Duffy, 45, of Mays Landing, were each sentenced to one year of probation, NBC 10 reports. If they complete their probation without incident, the altercation will be wiped from their permanent records.

Each man was also fined $100, according to the report.

The two engaged in a fight outside the Wicomico County Youth and Civic Center on July 15 after Barbella drove from New Jersey to the game to confront Duffy.

The battle erupted from an argument the two had over Barbella’s daughter no longer being a part of the team.

Ultimately, Duffy said to Barbella “You’re not going away until someone punches you,” before the fisticuffs began.

The fight ended with Barbella receiving medical attention and both men being charged with second degree assault, disorderly conduct and affray.

The altercation was captured on video, which is attached below but includes graphic violence and vulgar language.
