Stockton College Hosting International a Capella Quarterfinals

The event is Feb. 14.

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey issued the following statement on hosting this year’s International ICCA Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinals:

The Richard Stockton College of New Jersey is hosting one of this year’s Varsity Vocals’ International Competition of Collegiate a Cappella (ICCA) Mid-Atlantic quarterfinals. The event will be held in the Performing Arts Center on Saturday, Feb. 14.

For a growing national a cappella community, the ICCA is the most significant yearly event. There are five Mid-Atlantic quarterfinals, with two winners from each going to the Mid-Atlantic semifinals, leading up to the winner of each region competing in the finals in New York City.

In mainstream culture, the ICCAs gained popular recognition when the movie “Pitch Perfect” was released in 2012. The movie, starring Anna Kendrick, is based around a college a Capella group and the ICCAs.

“Stockton is relatively new to the ICCAs,” said Dr. Neil Aaronson, associate professor of Physics, who oversees Stockton’s three student a cappella groups. “Over the past few years, we have been working hard to make a name for ourselves on the a cappella stage, and our work has been paying off. As a cappella becomes more popular at the high school level as well, we hope that our success will help attract new and talented students to Stockton.”
