Two Galloway Residents to Help on Atlantic Cape Major Gifts Campaign

Mac Seelig and Charles Passagno are part of the college's capital and scholarship campaign.

Two Galloway Township residents are among 11 volunteer community leaders who will help Atlantic Cape Community College in its first major gifts campaign, the college announced on Wednesday, Aug. 17.

Mac Seelig and Charles E. Passagno will work on the public phase of the college's "Create Opportunity: The Capital and Scholarship Campaign for Atlantic Cape Community College."

Seelig is the honorary chair, and founder and president of AC Coin and Slot, which distributes slot machines throughout the United States, Carribean and Canada.

In his spare time, Seelig is a powerboat racer. He and his partner and former Washington Redskins quarterback Joe Theismann have won four national championships and one world championship. Seelig and his son Jason are in the Powerboat Hall of Champions.

Passagno is the regional executive vice president of Marsh and McLennan Agency LLC. He was the president of the Atlantic Cape Foundation Board from 2008-2010, and has been a member since 2003.He has served as the chair for the college's golf tournament.

He also served as Delaware River and Bay Authority Commissioner from 1993-2004, and has also served as director of the First South Jersey National Bank, Cape May Educational Trust Fund and the South Jersey Regional Theater.

 

It is the Atlantic Cape Foundation, in association with the college, that will launch this campaign on Sept. 13. The aim of the campaign is to raise funds in support of endowed scholarships and the purchase of furnishings and equipment for the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics facility, which will be built on the college's Mays Landing campus.

According to the college, the campaign will provide students with college-based financial assistance they'll need to continue their educational career and ultimately earn a degree at an institute of higher learning. It will also prepare students for competitive fields, including healthcare and technology with training on advanced scientific equipment in new laboratories.

 “As we move forward, we understand the need to rely less on traditional sources of public funding, and make our case that we are an entity worthy of philanthropic support," said Dr. Peter L. Mora, president. The Capital & Scholarship Campaign does just that and will allow us to fulfill our legacy of truly serving as the community’s college.”

Other residents who have volunteered to help the campaign include:

* Will Morey of Wildwood Crest, Cape May County chair and president and CEO of Morey’s Piers, and member of the board since 2008;

* Douglas Fraser of Marmora, Atlantic County chair and vice president of the Mays Landing Golf and Country Club;

* Diane T. McKoy, CPA, of Mays Landing, Atlantic Cape Foundation president, and foundation member since 2003;

* Kenneth L. Calemmo Jr. of Sea Isle City, chief operation officer of the law firm of Cooper Levenson and second vice president of the Foundation Board, and board member since 2003;

* Nicholas Cashan III of Hammonton, vice president and director of the Philadelphia Regional Office of Maran Corporate Risk Associates and first vice president of the Atlantic Cape Foundation Board, and foundation member since 1998;

* Matthew D. Moeller of Haddonfield, broker for Prudential Fox & Roach Realtors, adjunct instructor at Atlantic Cape and Foundation member since 2003;

* Douglas J. Heun, CPA, ABV, CFF, PFS, CFP of Linwood, and a partner at Friedman LLP;

* Kristi A. Bergman of Medford, acting department chair and assistant professor of English as a Second Language at the college; and

* Grant Wilinski of Mays Landing, associate dean of Academic Support Services at Atlantic Cape Community College.

The college established the foundation in 1978 as a nonprofit charity in order to build a broad base for its financial programs and services.
