Two New Board Members Sworn in at Galloway BOE Reorganization Meeting

Madeline Avery and David Carmen are now officially part of the board.

Madeline Avery and David Carmen were officially sworn in as the newest members of the Galloway Township Board of Education at the board's reorganization meeting Monday night, Jan. 7 at the middle school. Rich Dase, now the senior member of the board, was sworn in after winning re-election in November.

Avery was the top vote-getter in November's election, with 5,337 votes. Dase had 4,380 and Carmen had 3,491. Avery and Carmen replace Bob Iannacone and Eileen Kasunich. Both decided not to seek re-election this past November.

On Monday night, Ernest Huggard was unanimously re-elected President of the Board by the other members. George Schwenger was unanimously re-elected Board Vice President.

Appointments included:

Safety Coordinator: Tim Kelley;

Public School Auditor: Bowman and Company;

Board Attorney: William S. Capuccio;

Employee Benefits Consultant: Brown and Brown;

Architect: Fraytak Veisz Hopkins Duthie, P.C.; and

School Physician: Dr. Jeffrey Gong.

The following committees were established:

Affirmative Action: Suzette Cordero and David Carmen;

Child Care Program Council: Beverly Evensen and Madeline Avery;

Facilities: George Schwenger, David Carmen and Suzette Cordero;

Family Life Advisory: Madeline Avery and Beverly Evensen;

Finance: John Knorr, Rich Dase and Rosemary Hollway;

Government Liaison: Rich Dase, Beverly Evensen and Madeline Avery;

Negotiations: Suzette Cordero, John Knorr and Ernest Huggard;

Policy: Beverly Evensen, David Carmen and Rosemary Hollway;

Safety: Beverly Evensen and Rosemary Hollway; and

Technology: George Schwenger, Suzette Cordero and Madeline Avery.

John Knorr will represent the school board on the Education Foundation.

Madeline Avery will be the delegate to the NJSBA/County Association, and Suzette Cordero will be the alternate delegate.

Beverly Evensen will be the delegate to the Nutrition Committee, Rosemary Hollway will be the alternate delegate.

Rich Dase will represent the school board as a non-voting member on the Galloway Township Planning Board. A school board representative to the Zoning Board will be determined at a later date.
