110-Acre Wildfire Burns In South Jersey
Wildfires continue to burn throughout the region during the drought.

DOWNE TOWNSHIP, NJ — A 110-acre wildfire in Cumberland County has been partially contained, officials said Friday morning.
The fire was detected Thursday around Railroad Avenue in Downe Township — a heavily wooded area. Officials expect the wildfire to be contained at 140 acres.
No homes or buildings are at risk of damage, according to the New Jersey Forest Fire Service.

Railroad Avenue is closed between Dividing Creek Road and Ackley Road as of 10 a.m. Friday.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

The Forest Fire Service plans to issue more information at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
Drought conditions have made outdoor fires spread quickly in recent weeks. The state's Stage 3 fire restrictions continued Friday, prohibiting charcoal fires and only allowing fires in elevated stoves that use only propane, gas, natural gas or electricity.
The state issued a drought watch Oct. 17, encouraging residents and businesses to conserve water.
