4 Killed In Gloucester Township Crash: Police

The accident on Sicklerville Road between Dunlin Way and Mullen Drive also left 2 in critical condition.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Four people were killed in a head-on collision in Gloucester Township on Sunday evening, according to officials. Three of the four people who died were family members who were traveling together, and the drivers lived on the same street.

The crash, which also left two people in critical condition, happened on Sicklerville Road between Dunlin Way and Mullen Drive at about 4:57 p.m., said Gloucester Township Police Chief Harry Earle.

The accident involved a 2005 Camry driven by 53-year-old Richard Mason and a 2008 Camry driven by 43-year-old Panagioti Ramoundos, both of Wilson Drive in Winslow Township, Earle said during a press conference at the municipal building.

Anastasia Ramoundos and Demetrious Ramoundos were taken to local hospitals. They both died while in the hospital.

Jack Kalogridis, 59, of Gloucester Township, is one of two people listed in critical but stable condition. The other is 74-year-old Betty Kalogridis, of Williamstown. They both remained hospitalized as of Monday afternoon.

"We're saddened for the loss that occurred yesterday, and are also praying for the family members that are injured," Earle said. "It's another reminder that we need to drive safely."

Earle said that there were 601 traffic fatalities in New Jersey last year, and that the Gloucester Township Police Department puts a focus on traffic safety, including participation in the "Put Brakes on Fatalities Day" initiative set to run on Tuesday.

The cause of Sunday evening's crash remained unknown Monday morning. Police were uncertain if drugs or alcohol were involved, or which occupants were wearing seat belts. It was also unknown if either car was speeding, and which car crossed the line on to the other side of the road.

The occupants of the 2008 Camry belonged to the St. Thomas More Greek Orthodox Church in Cherry Hill, according to the Courier Post.

Resident Clinton Thompson told NBC 10 he heard a loud sound "like a transformer blowing up" at the time of the crash. He called the incident "terrifying," as he has a child who is getting ready to start driving.

The accident remains under investigation by the Gloucester Township Police Serious Crash Investigation Team and the Camden County Prosecutor’s Office Serious Crash Investigation Team.
