Artistic Director of Mainstage retires after 35 years.

The Artistic Director of Mainstage Center for the Art, located in Downtown Blackwood, retires after 35 years on the job.

Downtown Blackwood's Mainstage Center for the Arts bid farewell to a beloved figure in the local arts scene as Ed Fiscella, the Artistic Director and Founder of Mainstage Center for the Arts, announced his retirement after an astounding 35 years at the helm. Fiscella's resignation as Artistic Director will take effect on July 1, 2023, but he will continue his involvement with the organization in a part-time capacity as the Associate Artistic Director.

In a heartfelt letter addressed to the "Mainstage Center for the Arts Friends and Community," Fiscella expressed a mix of emotions as he reflected on his time at the organization. Founded in 1989, Mainstage Center for the Arts has been a cornerstone of the community, bringing the transformative power of the performing arts to children and families in the area. Under Fiscella's leadership, the organization has flourished, offering numerous performances, educational programs, and creative outlets for aspiring young talents.

As Fiscella acknowledged the growth and accomplishments of Mainstage over the years, he credited the dedicated Board of Directors and the new Administration for ensuring the organization's continued success. Grateful for the unwavering support from his lifelong friend and co-founder, Joe Bretschneider, Fiscella also expressed deep appreciation and love for his wife, Nancy, and his three daughters, who have been integral parts of the Mainstage family.

Fiscella took the opportunity to extend his gratitude to Upper Darby Summer Stage's Harry and Dottie Dietzler, Anne Marie and Tom Weaver, Cheri Howlett, and the late Vince Gentless and Michael Schreiner for their unwavering support of him and Mainstage Center for the Arts throughout its journey.

The retiring Artistic Director also acknowledged the friendships and partnerships that have been instrumental in Mainstage's success. The Mainstage staff, alumni, Township of Gloucester, and Gloucester Township Schools all received special recognition for their support, dedication, and passion for the arts. Fiscella emphasized their contributions as sources of inspiration, highlighting the collective effort to overcome challenges and celebrate accomplishments.
