Black Horse Pike Schools See Decrease In Drugs, Alcohol: DOE

The district saw a decrease from 2015-16 to 2016-17, new data from the state shows.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The Black Horse Pike Regional School District was among 140 districts statewide that saw a decrease in the number of drug and alcohol incidents in their district between 2015-16 and 2016-17, according to the most recent statistics available from the New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE).

The district had 28 incidents in 2016-17, according to statistics released by (NJDOE) within the past month. They ranked 22nd among districts across the state for the highest number of incidents.

However, that number represented a decrease of 6 from the previous school year, placing it at No. 251 on the list of highest increases. The most decreases in the state were reported by Paterson City, which reported a decrease of 29 incidents. Paterson also ranked first for most incidents, with 124.

The Gloucester Township Public School District held steady with 2 incidents reported in 2016-17. There was no change from the previous school year.

School districts are required to by law to report these numbers, and NJDOE said it is up to each district to report these numbers fairly and accurately.
