BREAKING: 'Engulfed' Fatal Crash Shuts Down N.J. Turnpike Lanes

All lanes were closed. Traffic was being diverted off Exit 4.

An “engulfed” fatal accident closed down a section of the New Jersey Turnpike on Monday afternoon, according to the State Police.

Emergency crews said that an occupant was entrapped at the southbound location, just below Exit 2, police said on Twitter.

The accident happened at mile marker 12.6 in Woolwich, Gloucester County. One vehicle described as “engulfed.”

All lanes were closed. Traffic was being diverted off Exit 4, and drivers were told to expect major delays. Drivers were told to take exits 3, 4 and 7A to avoid the traffic.
