Camden County College Baseball Alum Signs Minor League Contract With Colorado Rockies
Nate Coronado reports to Spring Training March 3.
GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Camden County College alumni is now a Colorado Rockie. Shortstop Nate Coronado signed a minor league contract with the Colorado Rockies this week, the college announced. Coronado will report to the Colorado Rockies Spring Training on March 3.
“We recruited Nate out of high school,” Camden County College coach John Merkh said. “He stood out as not only a great baseball player, but also an excellent young man. Our program is very excited and happy to hear that all of his hard work has paid off. We wish Nate the best of luck and we are proud to still have him as part of the Cougar family."
Coronado was a two time NJCAA All-American in 2013 and 2014. He helped lead Camden County College to a Garden State Athletic Conference Championship in 2013.

Coronado played for the Camden Riversharks in their final year of existence, in 2015. After the Riversharks folded, Coronado went on to play for the Sullivan Explorers, an independent American professional baseball team based in Loch Sheldrake, New York. They play in the Empire Professional Baseball League.
“Every opportunity Nate has been given he has earned,” Merkh said.

On its website, the Explorers refer to the Philadelphia native as “one of the best players in the Empire League in its inaugural year.”
He had 48 hits in 126 at-bats, with 27 RBI, four home runs, 12 doubles and three triples in 2016. He was walked 28 times, and struck out 17. He had 13 stolen bases.
