Driver Extricated In Gloucester Township Crash, Police Say

First responders treated the driver for possible head and internal injuries before transporting them to a hospital.

GLOUCESTER TWP., NJ — Police are investigating a crash in which the driver was trapped in their vehicle on Sunday after hitting a utility pole in Gloucester Township.

Township police were dispatched to the area of College Drive, between Winding Way and Cherrywood Drive, at 5:31 p.m. "for a report of motor vehicle crash involving an overturned vehicle and possibly a pedestrian." Police determined a pedestrian had not been involved.

"Arriving Officers located a 2018 Hyundai Tuscan [sic] on its roof in the northbound lane with the driver incoherent and unable to self-extricate from the vehicle," said the GTPD. The fire department's Station 85 arrived to safely remove the driver after stabilizing the vehicle and removing the driver's side door.

At the scene, Inspira BLS and Virtua ALS treated the driver for possible head and internal injuries before taking them to Cooper University Hospital for further evaluation and treatment, said police. The driver's condition was not released.

Township police said they do not suspect impaired driving to be a factor in the crash.

"Initial investigation revealed the Hyundai Tuscan was traveling northbound on College Drive where it lost control and began traveling in the southbound lanes," police said. "The vehicle then came back into the northbound lane where it struck a curb and utility pole causing it to overturn and slide on its roof for a short distance."

College Drive was closed for approximately two and a half hours on Sunday, police said. Officers are still investigating, and ask anyone with information or who witnessed what happened to call police at (856) 228-4500 or call the GTPD Anonymous Crime Tip Line at (856) 842-5560.

Lambs Terrace Fire Company and Pine Hill Fire Department assisted Gloucester Township fire squads and districts at the scene, according to a Facebook post from Lambs Terrace.
