'Electric Slide' Flash Mob Fundraiser Brings CCC $1,000 for Scholarships
Line-dancers earned over $1,000 for Camden County College scholarships doing "The Electric Slide" as a back-to-school flash mob on Tuesday.

Line-dancing employees – joined by a few students – earned over $1,000 for Camden County College scholarships in the four minutes and two seconds it took to do “The Electric Slide” as part of a back-to-school flash mob on the Blackwood Campus on Tuesday.
During the last week of August, a donor – who wished to remain anonymous – contacted Foundation Executive Director William C. Thompson with a proposition: For every member of the College community who would do “The Electric Slide” in the same place at the same time on the day before fall-semester classes began, the donor would contribute $10 toward scholarships. “Boogie woogie woogie” time was set for 12:30 p.m.
As word of the challenge spread across campus, employees who couldn’t participate – due to scheduling or an aversion to dancing in public – but wanted to help were asked to contribute their own $10 to the effort. The donor then stated that every $10 donated by a non-dancer would be matched.

More than 80 dancers gathered in the Connector Atrium Tuesday afternoon to do the fundraising dance. They were led by Foundation associate Melissa Daly, who organized the event. A video of the action may be viewed from the College’s public Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/video.php?v=10152693521402174.
Non-dancers were given until Friday to make their opt-out donations. By the end of the day Tuesday, though, the dancer contributions from the donor and the non-dancer donations and donor matches already had exceeded the $1,000 goal.
