Erial Elementary School Locked Out for Reports of Shots Fired

Erial Elementary School was put in a lockout Friday afternoon after a nearby resident reported hearing gunshots, Gloucester Township Police said.

It turned out those gunshots were coming from a nearby shooting range. The resident reported hearing the shots coming from along a wooded area near the school grounds around 4 p.m.

As a precaution, the school’s staff and the Gloucester Township Police Department initiated a lockout, which included a police response to secure the school area.

Police conducted a large search of the area, and quickly discovered the shots were coming from a nearby shooting range.

No residents and no students were in danger at any point.
