Ex-City Employee Sentenced For Theft In Camden County
The former public works supervisor used money from the city's budget to purchase auto parts for personal use.
GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ — A former supervisor for a Camden County city will avoid prison time after using public funds to purchase auto parts for himself. But John Zuccarelli's sentencing includes probation and restitution payments.
Zuccarelli served as assistant public works supervisor for Gloucester City Public Works. Authorities received an anonymous tip in March 2022 about an employee committing acts of theft within the department. That October, Zuccarelli was charged with third-degree theft.
On multiple occasions from 2017-22, Zuccarelli used money from the city's budget to order automotive parts for personal use, according to court documents. The Camden County Prosecutor's Office found he stole $1,471.33 in public funds.

Zuccarelli pleaded guilty June 28 to theft and was sentenced to probation and forfeiture of public office. He also must pay restitution — about $1,400 to Gloucester City and roughly $2,000 to Auto Part Plus in Runnemede.
A third-degree offense in New Jersey can carry three to five years in prison and a $15,000 fine upon conviction. But many defendants receive probation if they have no prior criminal history.
