Free CCC Seminar on American Opportunities/Earned Income Tax Credits

Camden County College will advise and instruct current and prospective students and their parents on the Blackwood Campus on March 22.

Could there be a scholarship hidden within your income tax return? Camden County College aims to help current and prospective college students and their parents find out – well before this year’s filing deadline – by offering a free seminar that will provide information and instructions about applying for the American Opportunities Tax Credit (AOTC) and the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).

The AOTC was made permanent in recently passed tax legislation. It is an especially underutilized resource available to individuals with incomes up to $80,000 and families with incomes of up to $160,000.

“Many students fail to take advantage of these tax provisions meant to encourage college attendance and help students and their families pay college costs,” noted CCC Dean of Students James N. Canonica. “This seminar will help participants take advantage of these tax credits, which could go a long way toward covering college tuition, books and fees.”

The seminar, which is being co-sponsored by the Camden County College Foundation and the College’s Financial Aid Office, will be led by Michelle Gasiorowski, CPA, a senior manager at Bowman & Company LLP in Voorhees. She will discuss eligibility and walk attendees through the steps of applying for the AOTC and the EITC.

The seminar will be offered twice on March 22: from noon to 1 p.m. and 4 to 5 p.m. Attendees are free to choose whichever session best fits their schedule.

Both sessions will take place in the Presentation Room of Taft Hall on CCC’s Blackwood Campus, which is located at College Drive and Peter Cheeseman Road in Gloucester Township. The campus is located just off Exit 7B of Route 42, and inputting “200 College Drive” into a GPS delivers drivers to an area near the campus’ main entrance. Light refreshments will be served during each session.
