Gloucester Continues Climb In National Night Out Rankings
Gloucester Township was once again nationally recognized for its efforts on America's night to stand up to crime.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Gloucester Township Police Department keeps climbing the National Night Out rankings. Gloucester Township ranked seventh nationally for the 2018 event, after finishing eighth in 2017, the police department announced. It has finished first in the state every year since 2012.
National Night Out is America’s night to stand up to crime. It began in August 1984 through an already established network of law enforcement agencies, neighborhood watch groups, civic groups, state and regional crime prevention associations and volunteers across the nation, according to the police department.
The inaugural event involved 2.5 million neighbors across 400 communities in 23 states. However, the event soon grew to a celebration beyond just front porch vigils.

Neighborhoods across the nation began to host block parties, festivals, parades, cookouts and various other community events with safety demonstrations, seminars, youth events, visits from emergency personnel, exhibits and much, much more.
Now, 38 million neighbors in 16 thousand communities across the nation take part in National Night Out. Millions of neighbors take part in National Night Out across thousands of communities from all 50 states, as well as all U.S. territories and military bases worldwide on the first Tuesday in August.
