Gloucester Township Honors Residents During Black History Month Celebration
The township honored 10 residents Monday night.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Gloucester Township Council honored 10 people during its Black History Month celebration Monday night at the municipal complex.
Those honored included:
- Madison Allen: a Timber Creek Regional High School student who is an aspiring biomed engineer, won a leadership ambassador award during a conference at Monmouth University and feeds the homeless;
- David Honey: Special Law Enforcement Officer, 911 Dispatcher and the first African American lieutenant in the Blackwood Volunteer Fire Department’s history;
- Donetta Beatty: Freshman Class Vice Principal at Timber Creek, strong ability to relate to students and an infectious enthusiasm;
- Amira Guy: Highland Regional High School student with a 4.47 GPA taking five AP courses while participating in student council, the Model UN and the interact club, among others, and a volunteer at C.H.O.P., Virtua and an American Red Cross donor;
- Tony Brown Jr.: all-state football player at Timber Creek Regional High School, will attend the U.S. Naval Academy, senior class vice president, 3.6 GPA;
- Jamayka Young: Highland Valedictorian with a 4.67 GPA, involved in multiple honors societies, plays basketball, tennis, emailed principal and met with superintendent when she felt a change in the dress code was unfair;
- Julia Robinson: Special Education Teacher for Grades 2 and 4 at James W. Lilley Elementary School, organized a DVD rental club and a Vocabulary Rap Battle for students;
- George V. Hill III: Rotary Club trustee, Ann A. Mullen Middle School Secretary, recent candidate for Gloucester Township Board of Education;
- Renee Michel: Secretary at Union Valley Elementary School, President of the Home and School Association at JamesW. Lilley Elementary School, recently organized a memorial service for a student ; and
- Kanai Dismus: an eighth grader who plays basketball, softball and field hockey and participates in student ministry at Bethel Church.
