Fire, Heavy Smoke From Gloucester Township Home; Residents Displaced

Officials evacuated the homes in the area and quickly controlled the blaze, police said.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Sunday afternoon house fire displaced several Gloucester Township residents. But officials evacuated the homes in the area and quickly controlled the blaze, police said.

Police responded to the 59 Oak Ave. incident at about 12:30 p.m. on Easter. Officers found heavy smoke coming from the house's rear.

They evacuated the residence and neighboring homes. The home that caught fire had several residents, who safely evacuated before first responders arrived.

Several fire departments arrived and quickly controlled the blaze. Chews Landing Fire Department Station 82 is investigating the incident, while the Gloucester Township Office of Emergency Management and the Red Cross assisted residents with placement and other needs.

Responding agencies included Gloucester Twp. Squad 88, Chews Landing Fire Department, Glendora Fire Company, Blenheim Fire Co., Blackwood Fire Company, along with Runnemede Fire Department, Magnolia Fire Company Sta. 29 and Bellmawr Fire Department.
