Gloucester Township Man Indicted On Murder Charges In Atlantic County

Isaiah J. Newsome is accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old boy in Pleasantville in 2015.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — A Gloucester Township man has been indicted in the August, 2015 shooting death of a Pleasantville teenager, Atlantic County First Assistant Prosecutor Cary Shill said. Isaiah J. Newsome, who was 17 at the time of the shooting, has been indicted on charges of murder in the first degree, first-degree gang criminality, second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose (handgun) and second-degree unlawful possession of a handgun. He is accused of fatally shooting a 17-year-old boy whose body was found in the Max Manning Park in Pleasantville on Aug. 7, 2015.

An ensuing autopsy determined the cause of death was multiple gunshots, and was ruled a murder. In December, a judge ruled Newsome will be tried as an adult in the case. He is now 19.

The three-month investigation by the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crimes Unit Detective James Scoppa and Pleasantville Police Department Detective Sergeant Christopher Taggart led to Newsome’s arrest.
The Gloucester Township Police Department assisted in the arrest, which occurred without incident at Newsome's school in Sicklerville.
