Gloucester Township Summer Camps Cancelled

Many camps use the township's schools, which will be closed for the rest of the academic year.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Following Gov. Phil Murphy’s announcement last week that schools will be closed for the rest of the academic year, Gloucester Township officials have cancelled their summer camps program for this year.

“Gloucester Township Recreation Center’s Summer Camps utilize our local schools for camp locations,” township officials said in a statement. “After careful review, Gloucester Township has decided to cancel our Summer Camps for 2020. This also includes the GTPD Junior Police Academy. The health and safety of our community, children and staff remain our utmost concern.”

The Black Horse Pike Regional School District has been exploring ways to hold honor the Class of 2020, and received clarification from the State Department of Education shortly before Murphy made his remarks during a news conference on Sunday.

On Thursday, the township honored some of this year’s class when it announced their 2020 scholarship recipients. ! These students were randomly selected through a lottery drawing to receive a $1,000 college scholarship from our Gloucester Township Day Scholarship Committee: Joseph Abate, William Anskis, Ariyona Blake, Porsha Bryant, Jillian Burns, Theresa Byers, Julias Cani, Tara Collins, Summer Coyle, Anh Dang, Shannon DeCicco, Brandon DiBattista, Leia DiNuova, Joseph Foschini, Zachary Gage, Joseph Gallagher, Ryan Gibbs, Alyssa Giordano, Macy Hooker, Gregory Iannelli, Kerrigan Jackson, Scott Juliano, Alexander Klyne, Max Kricun, Leah Langill, Jewel Lewis, Haley Lyons, Allison Makowski, Gianna Maldonado, Michael Marchese, Michael Marioni, Claire McDermott, Kiara McEachern, Ky Syrah Muhammad-Robinson, Isabella Ohrenich, Jayce Overton, Anil Ozbas, Kevin Pogozelski, Taylor Rastelli, Taylor Redd, Ethan Rego, Alexandria Ritchie, Troy Smith, Alyssa Soler, Rebecca Ulrich, Kiley Weldon, Jenna Whelan, Jake Wilson, Matthew Woods, Amir Zia.

“The Gloucester Township Scholarship Committee is an amazing organization that has been giving back to our community for the past 34 years,” Mayor David Mayer said. “Over 1,300 scholarships have been awarded over the years totaling over $1,200,000. Congratulations to this year’s recipients. We wish you luck and success in your college careers.”
