Gloucester Township's New Solar Project To Be Unveiled At Triton

Gloucester Township and energy advisor BlueSky Power will kick off the commissioning of a new 822kW solar project at Triton Monday.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Gloucester Township and energy advisor BlueSky Power will kick off the commissioning of a new 822kW solar project at Triton Regional High School on Monday, township officials announced.

A ribbon-cutting ceremony will take place at the high school, 250 Schubert Avenue in Runnemede, at 12:30 p.m. The rain date is Tuesday. The new solar installation is part of a larger solar initiative across the Black Horse Pike Regional School District, according to township officials.

The district has already seen the completion of 1.5MW of solar at both Triton and Timber Creek high schools. This project increases the district’s solar energy total to 2,742,000 kWh.

Officials said this saves the school district hundreds of thousands of dollars in energy costs and eliminates over 29,000 metric tons of harmful greenhouse gas emissions over the 15-year contract term.

“Gloucester Township’s focused pursuit of a cleaner community and world for its residents has resulted in award-winning, nationally recognized clean energy projects and a significant decrease in the Township’s carbon footprint,” BlueSky Power CEO Ben Parvey said. “That focus is demonstrated once again with the Triton Solar Project, ensuring that students are learning in an environment powered by renewable energy.”

The district’s projects are part of the township’s Energy Master Plan. That plan has seen the installation of over 15 Megawatts (MW) of solar, including 8 MW of solar on two landfills, 6 MW of solar at 11 schools and municipal sites, solar truck port canopies at Public Works buildings, and EV charging stations at municipal sites.

Officials said that the clean energy projects accomplished so far have resulted in the elimination of approximately 12,000 metric tons of greenhouse gas emissions per year, and significant energy savings for Gloucester Township and its residents.

“Gloucester Township has implemented numerous solar energy projects over the past several years, and we are proud to cut the ribbon and celebrate the energizing of yet another solar project at Triton Regional High School,” Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer said. “As a community we strive to not only look for cost-effective options when it comes to energy, but we also aim to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and make a lasting impact on our environment.”
