Historic Fall Season For Camden County College Athletics

Five teams competed for Region XIX Championships, and three out of the five teams advanced to national tournaments.

Gloucester Township, NJ -- This fall semester was one of the most historic in the history of Camden County College athletics.

Five teams competed for Region XIX Championships, and three out of the five teams advanced to national tournaments.

“It speaks volumes for the commitment of our coaches and student athletes for the success of this year’s teams,” Camden County College Director of Athletics Bill Banks said.

The men’s soccer team finished the year with a record of 18-1-4, with the lone loss coming on Sunday, Nov. 13, in the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III National Championship Game.

This was the first time in the soccer program’s history that the men’s team made it to the National Championship Game.

It was also the fourth consecutive year that the team qualified for the National Tournament, which includes the top eight teams in the country. There are 85 NJCAA Division III men’s soccer teams in the country.

The team was ranked second in the country for over two months. Head Coach Giuseppe Lamberti was named the Garden State Athletic Conference and Region 19 Coach of the Year.

Four student athletes were named all GSAC and Region 19. In the national championship tournament, Camden County College had two players named to the National All-Tournament Team: sophomore Allan Costa and freshman Luiz Novo.

The women’s soccer team finished the year with a record of 11-6, but lost in the Region 19 final. This was the first time since 2009 that the women’s program made it to the Region 19 final.

Camden County College had four student-athletes make the All Region 19 Team, and four make the All GSAC Team.

Assistant Coach and Soccer Trainer Madison Gregory helped lead the team. Gregory is a former NCAA Division 1 Women’s Soccer Player and professional soccer player in Iceland. Four student athletes won awards: Sara Roselle & Lauren Larmanis (sophomores, 1st team), Samantha Mazzagatti (sophomore, second team) and Linda Kovacs (sophomore, third team).

First year Head Coach Louise Senopoulos guided the tennis team to an undefeated regular season at 8-0. The team won the GSAC and Region 19 titles, followed by a fourth place finish in the national tournament.

All six members were named to the All-Region and All GSAC team. The team had four All-Americans as National Runner Ups for both second and third team doubles. Head Coach Louise Senopoulos was named Coach of the Year for the Conference and Region 19.

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams competed throughout the fall semester at meets and each individual on the team continued to improve on their times.

At the Region 19 Championship Meet, the men’s team took 10th place and the women’s team took third place. Two female runners were named to the All-Region Team.

The women’s team competed in the National Championship Meet and took eighth place as a team, with freshman Alyssa Fario taking 20th individually and sophomore Susan Snuffin taking 43rd.
