Increase In Drug, Alcohol Cases In Gloucester Township Schools

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ - The Black Horse Pike Regional School District was among the top 15 school districts in the state when it comes to both increases in substance abuse and overall substance abuse cases, according to a recently released list.

New Jersey has released its annual list of substance-abuse cases reported by each school district, revealing the most recent data of reported cases.

The state has also released the list of highest increases – and biggest reductions – in cases from the previous year, between 2016-17 and 2017-18, which were the most recent years available.

The Black Horse Pike Regional School District, which has three high schools, ranked 13th in the state with 51 reported cases of substance abuse last year. It was an increase of 23 cases, which was the 16th highest increase in New Jersey.

The Gloucester Township K-8 Public School District had 14 reported cases, which was No. 104 among all districts in New Jersey. It was an increase of 12 cases, the 41st largest increase in the state.

The state Department of Education has cautioned that these numbers are reported by each district, so each jurisdiction is responsible for reporting its results fairly and accurately. But they are required by law to report them.
