Internationally Acclaimed Young Americans Bring Performing Arts Workshop to Gloucester Township

Hundreds of local students will partner with the Young Americans in its "Turn Up the Music"workshop/tour, Nov. 6-8, presented by Mainstage.

Hundreds of southern New Jersey students in Grades 3-12 will join forces with the internationally-acclaimed Young Americans during their National Music Outreach Tour, an event that occurs locally just once every three years.

On Nov. 6-7 at Timber Creek High School in Sicklerville, student participants will work side-by-side with these talented performers as they engage in a workshop focused on voice, dance, and performance techniques.

Then, on Nov. 8 at Camden County College’s Dennis Flyer Theatre, student participants will share the stage with the Young Americans in a spectacular two-hour show in front of parents, families, teachers, and community members. The workshop and performances are sponsored by Mainstage Center for the Arts.

The Young Americans are trained performers, teachers and strong music advocates, aged 18-24, who use philosophies and methods, developed during The Young Americans’ 50 years of existence to bring the joy of singing, dancing and performing to students all around the world.

“It’s an honor and privilege for us to welcome the Young Americans back to our home,” said Ed Fiscella, Mainstage Center for the Arts producing artistic director. “In the fall of 2011, we had over 300 students sing and dance their way through this impressive three-day performance workshop. I can’t wait to see this energy again. What makes it really nice for me is that two of the Young Americans on tour, Ana Cullin and Josh Kurtz grew up with us doing Summer Stage. Everyone here is proud of them and looking forward to the chance to see them interact with the kids and perform for the hometown audience.”

Cullin’s mother, Regina credits a previous workshop with inspiring her daughter.

She said, “From the time Ana went to her first Young American’s workshop her goal and dream was to become a Young American. She was focused and driven and now she is a Young American. I, as a parent very highly recommend this workshop. It may not become your child’s dream but I can pretty much guarantee it will have a lasting positive effect on your child. Your child does not have to be able to sing and dance to take the workshop. They just have to be open to the experience and willing to try. Yes, they will learn songs and dances during the workshop. But, they will also learn about trying things they might have thought they could not do. They will learn about spirit, compassion, working together, encouraging others, positive attitudes and so much more...from a group of young adults who are passionate, nurturing, encouraging, fun, talented, enthusiastic, open and giving.”

Demand for the incredible opportunity provided by the Young Americans is great. Don’t miss out!

Registration for the three-day workshop is just $90, plus a T-shirt fee.

Tickets to the high-energy performance on Nov. 8 at 4 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. are also available for purchase on the Mainstage website.
