GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — The new coronavirus outbreak in New Jersey and across the nation is having vast impacts in Gloucester Township, including the closure of schools and many businesses.
The number of cases of the illness caused by the virus, known as COVID-19, continue to rise, leading Camden County to extend its State of Emergency over the weekend.
The governor has declared a Stay at Home order throughout the state. All non-life-sustaining businesses in New Jersey have been closed.

As of Monday morning, there were 163 cases of new coronavirus in Camden County, including 25 in Gloucester Township. There are more than 13,000 cases in New Jersey as of Sunday, and 161 people have died as a result of COVID-19.

SCHOOLS
All schools in New Jersey remain closed in response to the new coronavirus outbreak, state officials said. MORE.
Last week, both the Gloucester Township K-8 and Black Horse Pike Regional public school districts announced they have reduced the days of distribution for breakfast and lunch meal distribution.
Meals will now be distributed on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, 9 a.m. until noon. Parents in the Black Horse Pike Regional and Gloucester Township K-8 school districts will now get two days worth of food for each visit.
MUNICIPAL GOVERNMENT
Gloucester Township Council was set to hold its rescheduled council meeting that was moved from March 23 on Monday night, but the meeting would be closed to the public. Participation could take place by dialing in or on a YouTube livestream.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY
A Gloucester Township family had a surprise scheduled for their son’s fourth birthday, but it was cancelled due to the coronavirus outbreak. Instead, police, fire and EMS surprised him with a parade in his neighborhood.
BUSINESS
A Wawa on Berlin-Cross Keys Road was temporarily closed after an employee tested positive for coronavirus. It was closed from March 19-28, according to nj.com.
