Lindenwold Man Attacked Father With Machete: Police

James Rodgers is accused of attacking his 61-year-old father with a machete on Monday.

A Lindenwold man has been arrested after he attacked his father with a machete, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Lindenwold Police Chief Thomas Brennan said on Tuesday.

James Rodgers, 29, was arrested and charged with one count of first-degree attempted murder, one count of third-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of fourth-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

Police were called to his home on Pine Grove Avenue at about 5:47 p.m. on Monday and found his 61-year-old father suffering from multiple slash wounds to his head and body. The wounds were caused by being struck in the head several times by his son with a machete, police said. He was airlifted to Cooper University Hospital, where he is currently receiving treatment.

James Rodgers will be remanded to the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a first court appearance followed by a pretrial detention hearing in accordance with the New Jersey Bail Reform. Under the recent Criminal Justice Reform rules, the court may order Rodgers be detained without bail or released with conditions.
