Local Salon Launches iPhone App

in Blackwood has launched a new iPhone App that allows clients to book appointments, review special offers and shop for gift certificates. 

The new iPhone app is one of the first in the spa industry.  

Since its mid-October launch, the Techniques app has been downloaded by more than 400 users from around the world. 

The app is free to download and has nine menu items including services, packages, special events, a gift certificate shop, directions and other information. Clients can book individual appointments and request reservations for bridal parties, spa days and other specialty services, on-the-go. Which, says owner Christy Cholerton, gives clients the advantage of having one less call to make in the middle of their already-busy daily schedules. 

The reservation service is also available through Techniques' redesigned website and mobile website. The new website includes information on services and specials on the home page. 

“This is an age where business is done on handheld devices,” Cholerton said. “We understand the market and how it is evolving, and we are ahead of the curve in our industry by making an effort to reach mobile users.”

According to Digital Buzz Blog, a website that tracks trends in media and technology, more than one billion of the mobile phones in use are smartphones with web browser and application capabilities. The website predicts that by 2014 mobile Internet usage will overtake desktop Internet usage. 

The app is linked to Techniques’ website, so that whenever the website is updated, the application is updated as well. 

The first version of the app was developed by WebAppClouds.com and is optimized for the iPhone. In about two weeks, Techniques will release an app for the Droid and, soon, an app optimized for tablet devices like the iPad. Cholerton says they have already started working on an update for the iPhone app, which will include more shopping options and additional client features. 

“Businesses who don’t communicate with mobile users are missing out on the changing marketing model. We strive to make our clients feel comfortable, and by affording them the opportunity to reach us from their smartphones, we are right on target,” said Cholerton. “This is where business is heading, and we are excited to take on the next technological innovation, whatever it may be.”
