Murder Arrest In Shooting Death Of 8-Year-Old Camden Girl

Gabrielle Hill-Carter was outside her house when she was caught in the crossfire of a gunfight. An arrest was announced Friday.

U.S. Marshals have captured a man and charged him with the death of an 8-year-old Camden girl, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo and Police Chief Scott Thomson said Friday morning.

Tyhan Brown, 18, of Camden, has been charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 8-year-old Gabrielle Hill-Carter last month.

Carter-Hill was outside her house around 8:30 p.m. on Aug. 24 when she was caught in a crossfire between two groups of people and shot in the head. She was taken to Cooper University Hospital, where she died later that week.

Brown was arrested at a relative's home in Clarksville, Tennessee, Friday morning, police said. He is currently being held at the Montgomery County Jail in Clarksville awaiting extradition proceedings.

Brown's mother, 35-year-old Shakia Land, was charged with one count of fourth- degree hindering an investigation in the fatal shooting. Land was arrested last week, and the prosecutor's office revealed their relationship on Friday.

Earlier this week, Brown's girlfriend Natasha Gerald, 19, of Sicklerville, was charged with third-degree hindering the investigation by providing a false alibi for a person of interest in the fatal shooting.

The suspects were able to speed off in a car away from the scene. Police previously said they are searching for a black male who was last seen fleeing the area wearing dark clothes.
