Man Died In Crash After South Jersey Officer Tried To Stop His Vehicle: AG
The state attorney general's office is investigating the incident.
WINSLOW TOWNSHIP, NJ — A man died in a crash Monday morning in South Jersey after police tried to pull him over, authorities said. The state Office of the Attorney General (OAG) is investigating the incident.
The investigation involves a Monroe Township Police Department officer, who was on-duty and using a department vehicle during the incident, the OAG said.
The officer tried to stop the man's vehicle on County Road 723 in Monroe, authorities said. Shortly after the attempted stop, the officer found that the man's vehicle had crashed on East Fleming Pike (County Road 723) in Winslow Township, according to the OAG's preliminary investigation.

Authorities haven't released the identities of the officer or decedent.
"The investigation is ongoing and no further information is being released at this time," the OAG said in a brief news release.
State law requires the OAG to investigate all deaths that occur during encounters with law enforcement or while the decedent is in custody. The agency's Office of Public Integrity and Accountability must then present the findings to a grand jury, which determines whether any involved officers should get indicted.
The OAG is currently investigating whether Monday's incident falls under the law's purview.
