Man Indicted For Selling Heroin To Overdose Victim For $10: Cops

Jimmy Flakes Jr., 40, of Lawnside, has been indicted in the victim's death.

An alleged drug dealer from Camden County has been indicted after a Marlton man he sold $10 worth of heroin to in September died, Burlington County Prosecutor Scott Coffina announced.

Jimmy Flakes Jr., 40, of Lawnside, has been indicted on a charge of first-degree strict liability for a drug-induced death. Police found a 45-year-old Marlton man dead in his home on Sept. 28. Investigators believe he overdosed on heroin that Flakes sold to him for $10.

He was also indicted on three third degree charges involving distribution and possession of heroin. Flakes was arrested in November.

The case was investigated by the Evesham Township Police Department, with assistance from the Lawnside Police Department in Camden County. The lead investigator was Evesham Township Police Detective Christopher A. DeFrancesco.

Coffina, who is approaching his one-year anniversary of becoming Burlington County’s top law enforcement officer, pledged when sworn in to use the resources of his Office to help combat the opioid epidemic.

In addition to educating the public about the opioid scourge and launching a program in Evesham for addicts to come to the police department, turn in their drugs and receive treatment, Coffina has made prosecuting dealers whose customers overdose a priority.
