Man Jailed For Child Sex Assault After Victim Visits Priest: Cops
Two people have accused 78-year-old David Zechmeister, of Gibbsboro, of child sexual assault.

A Gibbsboro man has been arrested and charged with child sexual assault after one of his victim's visited the accused assailant's priest, according to authorities.
The victim, who was not named, visited a priest at 78-year-old David Zechmeister’s church and revealed that Zeichmeister sexually assaulted him multiple times when he was between 10 and 12 years old, Camden County Prosecutor Mary Eva Colalillo announced on Tuesday.
The man claims Zechmeister sexually assaulted him multiple times in Zechmeister’s basement and the cabin behind his home between May 1987 and May 1990, according to the prosecutor’s office. As a result of this claim, Zechmeister was arrested at his home without incident charged with first-degree aggravated sexual assault on Oct. 3.

Then, another victim stepped forward. This man reported sexual contact with Zechmeister in his cabin when the victim was 12 years old in August and the fall of 1990, the prosecutor’s office said. On Oct. 12, Zechmeister was additionally charged with second-degree sexual assault.
Zechmeister is currently detained at the Camden County Correctional Facility pending a pretrial detention hearing.
