Mayer And Cardis Need To Stop Growing Debt, Spinning Truth
Mayor Mayer and his administrator can't help themselves when it comes to running up the taxpayer's credit cards.
When it comes to bonding, and borrowing, Gloucester Township's Mayor Mayer and his administrator can run up the taxpayer's credit cards with the best of them. Council President Mercado, and the rest of council will only be too happy to rubber stamp the debts.
Instead of budgeting for needed items, including capital expenses, they choose to bond and kick the can down the road. Most residents of GT that have credit cards know that when they reach their credit limit, that kind of spending is over.
As usual in an election year, the taxpayer's credit card will take another $8.7 million hit.

Among the items mentioned during the recent $1.7 million bond discussion was fixing our local roads. The problem with that, is that we already pay addition 23.5 cents/gal and an additional 4.3 cents/gal tax, that was intended specifically to fix our roads. When asked at the last council meeting about getting our share of that gas tax money, twp administrator twisted my words, attempting to make it appear that I, or we, didn't want our roads fixed. Fact is, the mayor's "accountant" should be requesting more of our share of that gas tax money and not putting the taxpayers into even more debt. When you bond/borrow more than you need, it is like taking a cash advance on the people's credit cards too.
It's time that Gloucester Township learn how to live within our means, as we do, and stop the borrowing, friendly commissions, frivolous spending, and then hammering us in off election years. The people of a once great town could surely use the break.
