Mayer: Premium Outlets Could Mean $50 Million in Ratables
Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer believes the outlets will bring a lot of money to the township, nj.com reports.

Gloucester Township Mayor David Mayer believes the new Gloucester Township Premium Outlets could translate into about $50 million in ratables for the township.
He made the comment during Thursday morning’s groundbreaking, adding that he’s wanted to develop the land between the Black Horse Pike and Route 42 “for years,” nj.com reports.
Gloucester Premium Outlets is a joint venture between Simon and PREIT-Rubin, Inc. and will be developed and managed by Simon, according to a statement issued by Simon following Thursday’s groundbreaking.

The outlets will be located at the intersection of Robert Kelly Drive and Cooper Road in Blackwood.
Simon has a tax abatement with the township, meaning it will not begin paying taxes on the property until next year, according to the report.

It will feature about 80 designer and lifestyle brands, in addition to an array of dining options. It will also host community events, including musical entertainment, charity events and children’s activities.
Leaders from Simon as well as Mayer, New Jersey State Senators Donald Norcross and Fred Madden, along with several other New Jersey political dignitaries commemorated the project with an official ground breaking ceremony for the 375,000 square foot property, according to a release issued by Simon following the groundbreaking.
“The Gloucester Premium Outlets project is a perfect example of what I see as the future of Gloucester Township,” Mayer said in the statement. “We are excited to welcome Simon and the Outlets to our township and look forward to welcoming thousands of shoppers to the region starting next summer.”
“I want to thank the entire community of Gloucester Township, especially Mayor David Mayer, for welcoming us with such open arms,” Danielle De Vita, Senior Vice President, Development & Acquisitions for Simon Premium Outlets, said in the statement. “We’re excited to officially begin the project, which will create 300 to 500 construction jobs and more than 800 full-time and part-time retail jobs upon opening. We expect Gloucester Premium Outlets will be a catalyst for economic growth and vitality for Gloucester Township and the surrounding area.”
According to Simon, the project will provide between 300 and 500 temporary construction jobs and over 800 full-time and part-time retail positions.
Reaction to the project has been mixed in the township.
