Why are you seeking a seat on the school board?
I am running for the Board of Education because I have a passion to ensure the current generation of learners will be successful future leaders. I want to be a part of the organization that sets the district goals and policies to ensure every child receives this opportunity.
The single most pressing issue facing our school district is _______, and this is what I intend to do about it.
The current/post COVID-19 fallout on academics, finances, and social-emotional impact on students and staff.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking to serve on the school board seat?
Originally I thought this year would see a state aide reduction; however recently, I believe our Governor said he would fund as promised. However, future years may be impacted in proportion to State shortages. As a Board of Education member, I would budget conservative. Academically teachers are doing a great job coupled with parental support. However, I am concerned that the quick March exit to all remote, combinations of hybrid and remote currently doesn't work as well for all students and may cause an achievement gap. As a Board of Education member, I would ensure teachers are given all the tools/professional development they need to continue to challenge each student. I would support enrichment opportunities for all students.
What are the critical differences between you and the other candidates seeking to serve on the school board seat?
Knowing several of the candidates share my view, I clarify "other" to not include all. I encourage involvement from all stakeholders. I believe the public and staff deserve a voice. I will listen and learn. I will do my best to represent your voices. I have no outside influence or favor to repay.
Describe the other issues that define your campaign platform.
I give you a promise to vote my conscience, be accountable. I have no political funding.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you will be effective on the school board?
I bring expertise to the table as a prior Board of Education member, with a stellar attendance record. I initiated the current Star Student recognition program. I proudly supported many great initiatives — notably expansion of Kindergarten from half to full day, technology expansion for staff, Chromebooks for students. I devoted many hours to classes offered by New Jersey School Boards Association. I have attended seminars, earned association credits, and have tested into the highest school board award given — Certified Board Leader. I have served in leadership roles as Past President, Vice-President, Chair of Finance, Chair of Personnel. I have been part of a team that successfully negotiated contracts.
What else would you like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I promise to always vote with independent thinking and integrity. I am dedicated. I do my research and ask questions before I vote. I am not an automatic YES vote.
The best advice ever shared with me was
I have received plenty of great advice over the years, but as a school board candidate advice should parallel my candidacy. I will defer to a statement made at one of my training classes — cast every vote after you answer this question — how does my vote effect a child??? I will think and vote this way. Thanks for an opportunity to represent YOU!
