Meet the Glendora Cake Boss
Adelaide's Bakery specializes in amazing cakes and cupcake creations fit for a royal wedding.
All this talk of the royal wedding has everyone thinking about all those nuptial details—the dress, the flowers and, of course, the cake.
Named "Best of Weddings" by TheKnot.com in 2010 and 2011, Stefanie Murphy, owner, pastry chef and sugar artist at Adelaide's Bakery in Glendora, creates spectacular masterpieces fit for a queen—like a cake filled with hundreds of sugar flowers or a four-tier masterpiece topped with a peacock sculpted from cake, fondant and sugar.
Adelaide's, named for Murphy's grandmother, who was a master home baker, has been open for nearly four years.

"I knew I always wanted to work with my hands. The first creative endeavor I tried was sewing. Then I got into the kitchen and fell in love with the fast pace and the ability to make anything you can imagine, " said Murphy.
Murphy studied culinary arts at Johnson and Wales University in Miami. Before opening Adelaide's, she worked in every part of the restaurant business—bartending, hosting, waitressing, cooking, busing.

"One day, I got tired of working for other people, " said Murphy, "and I decided to give my business a go."
Every day Murphy and her assistant, Monica Motter, bake, frost and sculpt cake creations. The duo can create just about anything in three-dimension, like a replica of a UPS truck for a groom's cake or a Coach bag complete with a Tiffany box tucked inside.
"Even if we never made it, we are willing to try anything," Murphy said.
The cakes are not just spectacular to look at, but delicious to eat. Every week, Adelaide's holds a cupcake "Flavor of the Week" contest. You can stop in, suggest a flavor and if it gets picked, you win the cupcake.
Past flavors has included the "Carbomb cupcake," a Guinness-infused cupcake with Jameson whiskey ganache and topped with a Bailey's Irish Cream mousse. This week's featured flavor: Banana Split, complete with a cherry on top.
Adelaide's typically does about four weddings or special events per weekend. During wedding season, which is now, they book up quickly. If you want a cake, order it as soon as possible, allowing a minimum of two weeks.
