GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ — Two men who tried to enter homes by claiming to work for the Camden County government have been identified and charged, police said.

Both men went door-to-door Monday in Gloucester City, misrepresenting themselves as employees of the county clerk's office, authorities said. They have since been charged with impersonating a public servant, a disorderly persons offense, police announced Thursday.

Police identified them as Nicholas Maniscalco, 20, of Runnemede, and Antonio R. Martinez, 23, of Glassboro. They were each charged on a summons, pending a municipal court date.

Maniscalco and Martinez knocked on the doors of at least two Chestnut Avenue homes, claiming they were there to check them for damages, police said. Both residents questioned them and refused to let them inside.

The men left the scene in a vehicle marked "Green Leaf Landscaping." Neither suspect is affiliated with the business, police said. The truck was sold, and the company lettering was never removed.

Police reminded the public to always ask for identification from any solicitors before letting them into your home.

"I want residents to be vigilant in case someone comes to your door saying they are from the Clerk's Office," said County Clerk Joe Ripa. "Do not let anyone into your home who shows up without a proper identification and appointment for any reason."
