New Member Appointed To Gloucester Township School Board

The Gloucester Township Board of Education appointed a member to fill a vacancy created when Carol Grace was appointed to Township Council.

GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP, NJ — Jasmine Robinson has been appointed as the newest member of the Gloucester Township K-8 Public School District’s Board of Education, according to Superintendent of Schools John Bilodeau.

Robinson was appointed to the board with a vote of 5-2 with one abstention during Monday night’s board meeting. She will fill out the remainder of Carolyn Grace’s term, which expires at the end of 2021.

Robinson was one of six candidates who applied for the seat left vacant when Grace was appointed to Gloucester Township Council earlier this month. Read more here: Brittany Woods Activist Appointed To Gloucester Township Council

After one candidate withdrew her name from consideration, the other five candidates were asked the same series of questions by the board. All the candidates were women. Following the interviews, the board voted on the newest member.

Following her selection, Robinson must undergo a background check and fill out a packet before taking the oath of office, Bilodeau said. The school board next meets on Nov. 23.

“She’s always expressed an interest in serving the community,” Bilodeau said. “You always want individuals who have shown an interest in serving.”

Robinson succeeds Grace, who was elected to the school board in 2018 when she ran alongside Anthony Marks and Brian Reagan. With Grace's appointment, Marks is the only person elected that year who remains a member of the board.

Grace was nominated to fill out the remainder of Councilman Scott Owens’ term, after Owens resigned from council last month because he moved out of the district.

The appointment comes one week before elections to fill three open seats on the Gloucester Township School Board, meaning that four new members may soon be sworn into the board.

There are seven candidates chasing three open seats on the Gloucester Township K-8 School District's Board of Education, including Board President Mary Jo Dintino, Board Member Mary Ann Johnson and candidates Eleanor "Patti" Senner, Jose Fontanez, Linda K. Gilch, Ellen Reese and Joanne Rossell. Read more here: Election Day In Gloucester Twp.: Who’s On The Ballot, How To Vote
