New Jersey could get some of the roughest weather it's had in a while now that thunderstorms and heavy rain are expected to hit this weekend.

A hazardous weather outlook was issued for nearly the entire state since showers, along with scattered thunderstorms, are expected Friday night and through early Saturday morning.

Jason Franklin, an NWS meteorologist in Mount Holly, said the weather will also bring some strong winds to the area, some as strong as 23 mph.

"The one tonght will give us some heavy rain, about half an inch to an inch in spots," he said. "The one on Sunday night – there are few more dynamics to that."

The storms are expected to come mostly after 2 a.m. on Saturday morning and 8 p.m. on Sunday night:

Indeed, the northeastern United States will be sandwiched between two storm systems this weekend, according to AccuWeather. The same part of the massive storm over the Central states will swing through the Northeast late Friday and Friday night, according to AccuWeather.

The thunderstorms are likely to lose strength once they press eastward later Friday night and Saturday morning, and once they reach the Interstate 95 corridor, according to AccuWeather.

The storm slated to close out the weekend in the Northeast is expected to bring severe thunderstorms and tornadoes to the South, according to AccuWeather. In New Jersey, it is anticipated to be mostly a drenching rain producer.
