Ocean County Pets get a ride to better health
People for Animals SpayShuttle brings convenient and affordable spay/neuter to Ocean County

Jackson, NJ– The Ocean County Health Department has teamed up with a statewide non-profit veterinary services provider, People for Animals (PFA), to bring affordable spay/neuter options to county residents. PFA’s SpayShuttle program will pick up cats and dogs of county residents at the North Ocean County Animal Facility (NOCAF) in Jackson on the third Monday of each month starting July 18, 2018. Pets will be picked up at the shelter in the morning, transported to PFA’s surgical facility in Robbinsville for spay or neuter surgery, and residents will pick up their animals at the shelter later the same day.
“Some of our residents may find it difficult to pay for essential healthcare for their pets, like spay/neuter, according to Ocean County Freeholder Director Gerry P. Little, liaison to the Ocean County Board of Health. “For some, affordable alternatives are simply too far away,” says Daniel E. Regenye, Ocean County Health Department Public Coordinator.. “We are excited to be able to make it more convenient for residents to get their pets spayed and neutered by having the SpayShuttle visit our shelter every month,” concludes Regenye.
According to the NJ Department of Health Annual Animal Intake and Disposition report, NOCAF took in over 1,600 cats and kittens in 2016. “We are thrilled about our new partnership with Ocean County Health Department and the shelter,” says PFA Executive Director, Jane Guillaume. “This program will help not only the residents of Ocean County, but also the shelter by preventing the countless unplanned and unwanted litters that flood the shelter every year.”
