Parade to Honor Gold Medalist Burroughs on Saturday

A parade down Sicklerville Road in Winslow on Saturday will honor Jordan Burroughs, a local wrestler who won a gold medal at the 2012 Summer Olympics.

Sicklerville will honor Olympic gold medalist wrestler Jordan Burroughs on Saturday with a parade and celebration to celebrate his triumph in London.

The parade will begin Aug. 25 at 11 a.m. at the Chris Care Unit Missionary Church, head down Sicklerville Road and end at Winslow Township Elementary School 3.

Burroughs, originally from Sicklerville, won his gold medal in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London back on Aug. 10 in the 74-kilogram weight class of freestyle wrestling. , culminating in a win over Iran's Sadegh Saeed Goudarzi in the gold medal match.

, winning the 2006 state championship in the 135-pound weight class. At the University of Nebraska, Burroughs won two national championships. He also won his first world championship in 2011.

After hearing the news about the parade, Burroughs tweeted, “My hometown Sicklerville, NJ is throwing me a parade on August 25th!!! I feel honored! Hometown Hero!”
