Pedestrian Fatally Struck In South Jersey Bike Lane: Police

The driver hit the man while changing lanes, officials said. The crash remains under investigation.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — A lane-shifting vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian who was walking in a bicycle lane last week in Washington Township, police said.

Officers responded to the collision at about 9:30 p.m. Wednesday on Greentree Road, near Chapel Heights Road. The pedestrian was transported to Cooper University Hospital in Camden, where he succumbed to his injuries, officials said.

Police identified the decedent as Quinel D. Harris, 31, of Glassboro.

Harris had been walking northbound in the bicycle lane on Greentree Road, according to the preliminary investigation. A 2020 Chevy Silverado, traveling in the same direction, struck Harris while changing lanes, police said.

The northbound bike lane on Greentree Road, approaching Chapel Heights Road, is between two motor vehicle-traffic lanes, as shown below:

The crash remains under investigation.

Officials closed Greentree Road for about an hour between Chapel Heights and Pitman Downer Roads.
