Pedestrian Killed In South Jersey Hit-And-Run; Driver Sought: Police

The unknown driver left the scene after hitting a man who was pushing a shopping cart in the roadway, authorities said.

VINELAND, NJ — An unknown driver fatally struck a pedestrian and fled the scene in a Vineland incident under investigation, authorities said.

Officers reported to the scene at 12:30 a.m. Friday, after a vehicle appeared to hit a pedestrian on North Delsea Drive, near West Wheat Road, police said.

Bruce E. Byron, 60, of Vineland, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Investigators found that a gray Nissan Altima was traveling northbound on Delsea Drive. That's when the vehicle it Byron, who was pushing a shopping cart in the roadway's northbound lane, authorities said.

The driver left the scene and continued northbound, but it's uncertain where they went next, police said.

The Altima should have front passenger-side damage — specifically, a missing passenger-side bumper, fog light housing and missing passenger-side mirror, according to police. Police estimated a model year of around 2013-15.
