Puppies Abandoned In Freezing Cold In South Jersey; 1 Died

State Police are looking into who abandoned the puppies without food or water.

PITTSGROVE, NJ — A group of puppies was found abandoned in the cold last week in South Jersey. One of them died, according to State Police.

A good samaritan found the three puppies at about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the end of Eppinger Avenue in Pittsgrove Township, Salem County. They were trapped in a basket with no food or water in near-freezing temperatures, police said.

One of the three dogs was found dead. The others were taken to a local veterinary hospital because of their "unwell condition," according to State Police.

The state agency is looking into who may be responsible for abandoning the puppies. Anyone with information or who may have seen vehicles in the Eppinger Avenue area can contact Tpr. M. Wright of NJSP Bridgeton Station at 856-451-0101. The agency welcomes anonymous tips.
